Shit happened to Ferguson is happening in Hong Kong right now!
Students were just protesting peacefully for genuine democracy around Admiralty and Central, yet the police forced used pepper spray, tear gas and violence to disperse the crowd. According to the protesters, the police even raided a first aid booth with pepper spray.
I remember when I first found out the truth about “Somali pirates” I got chills because of how horrific the truth was and how insanely creepily well the media had twisted the situation. Every single fucking article making it seem like these “pirates” were just…
I think a lot of the articles about the BIG protest (the one in the tokyo post) have been buried by google, but you might have some luck doing a search for “Japan article 9”. The protests are also on-going in general- another is going on right now in Tokyo over Abe’s neo-nazi associated cabinet hire. Basically, protests are popping up nearly every day in various parts of japan it seems. To get the *most* up to date info on what’s going on, I recommend following (at sign)TOKYO_DEMOCRACY on twitter. The account is mostly in Japanese, but for every major headline or event they track, they seem to be trying to now include at least one or two English tweets about what’s going on. Fair warning that they’re a bit trigger happy with the retweet button if you decide to follow, haha. But they’re literally to-the-second.
As for what’s going on that I could dig up on google:
Here’s the guy who set himself on fire in Shinjuku. I’ve only skimmed this as it was the only article I seem to be able to come across at the moment:
More about the guy who set himself on fire:
Some things about the big protests awhile ago:
Here’s a collection of photos that appear to be from the night I wrote the post where over 40,000 people marched through Tokyo:
If you’d like more, doing a general google search for “Japan Article 9 protests” should bring up some more stuff from then. :) And again, for the newest info, you’ll want to keep an eye on that twitter account.
Hope that’s helped some!
